Join us for an unforgettable weekend, ascending the breathtaking Watkin Path to the summit of the highest mountain in Wales. – Yr Wyddfa ( Snowdon). The Watkin Path is generally quieter than routes like the Llanberis Path or Pyg Track and offers stunning and diverse scenery during the hike. October is a great time of year to go to Snowdonia. It’s before the clocks go back, there are way less crowds, the woodland is stunning and autumnal, and the cascading waterfalls are running well.

If the weather permits there will be panoramic views of the Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa)  Horseshoe, surrounding peaks, and coastline from the upper sections and the summit.

We’ll take care of everything, so you just need to pack the right kit and turn up!

Your Weekend Includes:

  • 🌄Guided Ascent of the Watkin Path: Experience the raw beauty and challenging terrain of this iconic route with our experienced and knowledgeable guides and qualified Mountain Leader.
  • 🛏️ Two nights accommodation in a cosy National Trust bunkhouse right in the heart of nature, with female & male only shared rooms
  • 🥗 Wholesome, healthy meals prepared using local produce where possible, catering for all dietary requirements. Enjoy hearty cooked breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday mornings and satisfying dinners on the Friday and Saturday evenings.
  • 🧘Breathwork & Mindfulness Coaching: Enhance your connection with nature whilst on the mountain with talks from our expert Mountain Leader.  Learn techniques to manage physical exertion, reduce stress, and fully appreciate the present moment.
  • 😆Support and Fun: The Wellbeing Walks team will be there to make sure it’s a safe, enjoyable, and empowering weekend for all
  • 🔥 A snuggly open fire to relax by in the evening and some stargazing under clear skies (weather permitting!)
  • 🏞️ On the Sunday we will likely take a shorter walk to visit the beautiful lake: Llyn Gwynant and maybe practice some breathwork and relaxation.
  • 👐 We are bringing along a qualified sports massage therapist who will be on hand to offer massages are relieve those achy tired muscles.

The Mountain Climb

Its approximately an 8 miles (13 km) round trip and The Watkin Path has the greatest vertical ascent of all the main Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) routes, starting at the bunkhouse and climbing over 1,000 meters (3,300 ft) to the summit at 1,085m. It will take us all day Saturday to complete this and this route is officially graded as “Hard/Strenuous” by the Snowdonia National Park Authority.

The path is varied, starting with a relatively gentle walk through woodland, passing beautiful waterfalls and pools, and then going through the historic South Snowdon Slate Quarry. The second half becomes significantly steeper and more rugged, ending in a challenging final section over loose scree and rocks to reach the ridge near the summit.

The Mountain Leader

Alex is a qualified Mountain Leader and qualified DofE Expedition Assessor and Supervisor who knows the Watkin Path and surrounding area extremely well. He has substantial personal mountain experience over last 30 years which includes Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia, Lake District, Scottish Highlands, Isle of Skye and the French/German/Italian Alps.

He has had careers in both the Army and the corporate world which has enabled him to develop a unique combination of skills and experience that ensures the safety and success for his guided climbs. He has an infectious passion for the mountains, inspiring others to challenge themselves, explore new heights, and develop a deeper appreciation for nature’s beauty and power.

He will teach us the powerful breathwork and mindfulness techniques for you to take back to your daily life.

Includes dinner on the Friday night, breakfast Saturday, a packed lunch and dinner Saturday night. A cooked breakfast & and buffet lunch before departure on the Sunday afternoon.

We will send out a food choices form, a week or so before the event where you can choose from at least 4 main options. Here’s what we served last time to give you an idea:

  • Middle Eastern Chicken & Lentil Pan Roast: A ‘curry’ style dish of lentils, spinach & aromatic spices, with pan-fried chicken thighs, finished in the oven.
  • Aubergine & Butterbean Maghmour: A delicious Lebanese dish with aubergine, beans, chickpeas & lentils in a tomato based sauce. (Vegan)
  • Homemade Spaghetti Bolognese: A true Italian classic with a meaty, tomato based chilli sauce.
  • Healthy Vegan Legume Stew: A Moroccan inspired vegetable casserole with 2 types of lentils & chickpeas. (Vegan)

And for breakfast we had:

  • Overnight Oats and Berries
  • Bacon and Eggs on Toast
  • Smashed Avocado on Toast
  • Eggs on Toast

You definitely won’t go hungry!

Important Considerations:

  • Fitness: A good level of fitness is crucial due to the significant ascent and challenging terrain.
  • Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support are essential.
  • Weather: Mountain weather can change rapidly. Be prepared for all conditions with layers of clothing, waterproofs, and sun protection.
  • We cannot control the weather – if we deem it unsafe then we will NOT summit the mountain, but we will still ensure a great weekend is had by all and will do a lower, shorter and safer walk. We will also plan the event again next year and try to get to that summit!

In summary, walking the Watkin Path is a demanding but rewarding way to experience the grandeur of Snowdon, offering a diverse range of scenery and a real sense of accomplishment and calm upon reaching the summit.

This weekend is perfect for:

  • Keen walkers and hikers looking for a rewarding challenge with a good level of fitness.
  • You can come on your own or with friends – but people come alone, make new friends and are well looked after by the team.
  • Anyone wanting to experience the beauty of Snowdonia.
  • Individuals seeking a mindful escape and a chance to reconnect and learn powerful breathwork and mindfulness techniques to take back to your daily life.
