Safety is the key priority for our Wellbeing Walks events. Our experienced Walk Leaders and well versed in making sure the group are kept safe and fully protected from any danger whilst outside.

The safety briefing will be delivered on every event by the Walk Leaders before we set off. Clear safety guidelines will be outlined in the briefing for the group, including staying together, following the designated trail, and rules for breaks and regrouping. There will always be a Walk Leader at the front and back of the group so no one can get left behind.

We are meticulous planners and we will reccy the route beforehand so we understand the terrain and difficulty level and can highlight any potential hazards or challenging sections to you.

We will recommend that everyone has appropriate gear and clothing for the walk by sending a detailed kit list in advance, sensible footwear and full waterproofs are key as the weather can be changeable especially if we are out in the hills.

The Walk Leaders all use online OS Maps navigation technology and have paper maps and compasses when required. They are familiar with the routes and able to navigate in low visibility conditions.

Communication out in the countryside is key and the Walk Leaders carry long range walkie talkies in addition to their mobile phones, which often have no signal.

We will look to understand the group’s walking experience and physical capabilities, any health conditions through a survey issued in advance. One to one conversations may be required prior to the start of the walk. The pace and difficulty level will be set to accommodate everyone’s abilities.

Weather forecasts will be considered before and during the walk and our Walk Leaders will be prepared to alter plans if weather conditions worsen unexpectedly. Events may have to be postponed the day before if there are weather warnings in place.

The Walk Leaders will encourage regular hydration and rest breaks and will monitor guests for signs of dehydration, fatigue, or any health issues. The Walk Leaders are trained to observe the group’s morale, energy levels, and any signs of discomfort or distress. The Walk Leaders are approachable and encourage open communication and address concerns promptly.

We will have a clear plan for emergencies, including knowing evacuation routes, first aid skills, and how to respond to injuries and wildlife encounters. The Walk Leaders always carry emergency supplies, a shelter and a first aid kit.

The risks of going out alone are endless, so let Wellbeing Walks ensure your team have a great day outside submersed in all nature has to offer.
