Join Wellbeing Walks on a 3-4 hour walk in the beautiful Nottinghamshire Countryside. A chance to escape the hecticness of the festive season, meet new people and immerse yourself in nature and learn about edible plants & fungi. We may be lucky and find some decorative festive items that can be used to create beautiful, natural Christmas decorations like wreaths, garlands, and table displays.
Our two experienced walk leaders will lead you along a disused railway line, now part of the National Cycle Network the Linby Trail. Then into Linby, a quaint English village and past a beautiful 12th century church. Then on into the stunning historic site once home to Lord Byron, Newstead Abbey. The Abbey is surrounded by landscaped gardens and a lake. It’s a diverse circular route with oak trees, open fields and forest. Along the route we will stop and talk about the amazing edible world of plants.
The Forager
Our partner, Joel from Let’s Go Foraging will come along and give a foraging talk as we walk that introduces the fascinating world of identifying and safely harvesting wild edible plants and fungi.
He will cover essential topics like basic identification principles and safety guidelines including emphasising the dangers of misidentification. He will cover sustainable harvesting practices to protect the environment, and give us a glimpse into the nutritional and culinary uses of foraged items.
We will talk as we walk and our forager will aim to inspire curiosity and respect for nature, while equipping you with foundational knowledge to begin your own foraging journey.
Itinerary for the walk
